What We Fix on LG
By appliance, with the error codes where LG gives you one, because those codes save a step.
What LG Machines Are Like to Work On
The error codes are worth reading out
The error codes are worth reading out when you call. An OE points at drainage and an IE at filling, and those two answers send Aaron looking in completely different places.
Harder parts, fewer faults
LG parts come through the same online supplier as Samsung. Harder to get than most, in Aaron's words, though the machines themselves give little trouble. LG machines run three to ten years and up in this market.
Is It Worth Keeping?
Aaron's own read on LG is a useful one: the parts are harder to get than most, but the machines themselves do not give much trouble. That combination argues for keeping one.
The error codes help here too. A machine that tells you which system it is unhappy with is a machine that gets diagnosed accurately, and an accurate diagnosis is what stops you paying for a part you did not need.

What It Costs
$100 service call, applied to the repair.
Same note as Samsung: the parts come from an online supplier, so allow a day or two.
The LG washer codes Aaron sees most: OE means the drain pump isn't clearing water; IE means the washer isn't filling, usually the water inlet valve.
One all-in figure, and nothing ordered until you have said yes.
How the Visit Goes
Three to Ten-Plus Years, and a Trade-Off Worth Understanding
The LG machines he gets called to run about three to ten years old and more.
LG is one of only two badges on this site where Aaron's honest answer on parts is that they are harder to get than most. He says it on the phone rather than at your kitchen table, because on this brand it usually decides whether the job takes one visit or two.
The other half of that same answer is the part people rarely hear: the machines themselves, in his experience, usually don't have many issues. Harder parts and fewer faults is a real trade-off rather than a complaint, and it is worth knowing before anybody writes off a working machine. LG is also good at telling you what is wrong. An OE points at drainage, usually the drain pump. An IE points at filling, usually the water inlet valve, which can also show up as a leak. Have the code when you call and you save a step.
Where LG Puts It, and What the Number Itself Tells You
On LG the number does more work than usual, because parts on this brand take longer to source and getting it right first time is what keeps the job to two visits rather than three.
An LG model number always starts with a letter, and the serial number starts with three digits where the first is the year of manufacture and the next two are the month. So the serial tells you how old the machine is, which on a repair-or-replace conversation is not a small thing.
