What an Old House Does to the Job
Houses of that era were not built with a laundry room. The machines went into a closet, a back hall, a basement corner or a garage, and in a good many Homewood houses a washer and dryer are stacked into a space with barely enough clearance to open the door.
That one needs a conversation before the appointment, not on the day. A stacked pair usually has to come out before anything behind it can be reached, and getting one out is often a job for two people. So the first thing Aaron will ask is for a photo of the space. If it looks like something you can help with, he will say so and ask. If it does not, he will tell you that and point you toward somebody set up for it. Better a straight answer on the phone than a wasted service call.
Where a washer or dryer is in an unconditioned garage or carport, an Alabama summer produces rust and corrosion that the same machine indoors would not get. January is the other end of it: a hard freeze can burst a water inlet valve, and that is how a floor floods overnight.
How the Town Got Its Second Half
The page has been describing houses built before their kitchens. More than half of Homewood's housing went up between 1950 and 1979, and it did not go up inside the town Homewood already was. It went up in the areas the city annexed after the war: Oak Grove and Drexel Hills in 1955, then Lakeshore, Edgemont, West Valley and Wildwood through the 1960s and 70s.
When the Fault Is Not the Appliance
It is not common, but in older houses the circuit is sometimes the problem. A dryer with no heat can be a failed element, or it can be one leg of a 240-volt supply that is no longer there. The first is a repair. The second is an electrician.
If it turns out to be the second, you will be told plainly, and knowing what is wrong is what the service call bought you.

Questions From Homewood
What should I send before I book?
Send a photo of the machine and a photo of the model plate. A minute on the phone settles it.
Does what the machine cost change whether you take it?
Freestanding machines from the mainstream manufacturers are everyday work whatever they cost. If yours was specified with a kitchen refit, send a photo and Aaron will tell you on the phone.
My laundry is stacked in a closet. Will you take the job?
Sometimes. Send a photo of the space first. If the machines can come out with a hand from you, Aaron will ask. If the space means it really needs two people, he will say so and recommend somebody else, and you will not have paid a service call to find that out.
What does the visit cost?
$100 for the service call, covering the trip and a full diagnosis, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead.
Are you insured?
Insured, yes, and a certificate is available on request.
Is there a warranty?
90 days on labor and on any part we supply. The exclusions are short and they are listed in full on the FAQs, which is the one place that carries the whole policy.
Do you cover Edgewood, Hollywood, Rosedale and West Homewood?
All of Homewood, and Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills next door.
Do you offer a military discount?
10% off for military and veterans, if you mention it when you book.
